Content and physical description
ContentIn reply to the letter dated 26 August, he writes that the work they asked about is the ballet WHO IS THE MOST POWERFUL IN THE WORLD, premiered in Brno in 1926 and in Prague in 1927. It was a great success at both theatres. He has sent them the score to have a look at. He would be glad if they sent it to the theatre that has shown an interest in it. The work has been enthusiastically received by audiences and critics alike. Perhaps the title should be changed to “Mäusenballet” for Germany. At the moment, the autograph score is in America, where performances of the work are being negotiated. He thinks that he will get it back in the autumn and then he could make it available to them. But in Prague they have a copy and the theatre director Otakar Ostrčil has promised to lend him the score in the case that the work is staged elsewhere. It is a joyful ballet-sketch, with modern dances, and lasts three hours. The subject: a family of mice have a beautiful daughter and they want to marry her to the most powerful in the world. The mouse prince is not the right husband, nor is the sun, since it is veiled by a cloud. The cloud is blown away by the wind, yet the wind is helpless against a wall. But mice can undermine and break down the wall. The mouse prince is thus the most powerful in the world, so they give him their daughter. BM would be pleased if the ballet were performed in Germany.
