Content and physical description
ContentThe cold weather is not good for her health. He encloses a letter from Dr. Mihule, dated May 11, 1977, which should convince them that the Friends of B. Martinů had not forgotten them. He thinks that the misunderstanding arose because of the strikes in the spring of 1977. He sends his regards to Jürgen. In February 1978, many of Martinů's works were performed in Paris and Compiege. J. Suk played the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No. 1 at the Theatre des Champs Elysées. She was unable to attend because she was ill. At the Salle Gaveau the Prague Quartet performed with Czech quartets and also with works by B. Martinů. They were a great success. Brian Large and the conductor Charles Mackerras invited her to London for a performance of Juliette, based on a play by Georges Neveux, to be performed at the English National Opera and the London Coliseum. The UK premiere took place on 5 April at 7pm. Further performances will take place on 11, 14, 19 and 27 April at 7.30pm. He deeply regrets that he cannot hear the work that Martinů loved so much. He hopes to be able to hear the opera at least on Programme 3, which will broadcast the performance at 6.30 pm French time. In London, the opera is sung in English. George was at the premiere and phoned her to say that the opera was a great success. She heard the premiere in Prague with her husband in Czech and will never forget it.
