Content and physical description
ContentUniversal Edition, Vienna responds to the letter of 17/9. They have discussed the contents of the letter with director Emil Hertzka. They realize that, as a composer, Martinů wants to publish his compositions as soon as possible and that, for reasons which Martinů is familiar with, they have not been able to publish a number of his works. They do not intend to stand in the composer´s way when it comes to promoting his music. If Martinů is of the opinion that the contract between him and Universal Edition complicates the promotion of his works, they do not want to promise him that they will publish many of his works. They accept the fact that the contract between them will be terminated even though they do not believe that the contract has caused any problems to him because they released his works shortly after he asked them to do so. They hope that they will have the opportunity to acquire more of his works and ask him to keep sending them his compositions. They would certainly like to promote the ballet ON TOURNE! As soon as an opportunity to perform it on a good stage presents itself, they would like to gain it for their publishing house. They assure him that they follow the development of his work very closely and hope for further cooperation.
