Content and physical description
ContentHe is leaving for Bohemia, he will send the finished opera by courier from Prague via Mr. Chmelar or Mr. Papoušek; there is not much translation in Act III, the orchestral interlude "Départ" is not adapted to the piano extract; he suggests giving the score to the conductor for inspection immediately; in a favourable case it would be possible to start the dissection of the material immediately; he also suggests giving the piano extract to Mr. Herzko; "if the performance in Berlin takes place, I am sure that Universálka will publish the piano extract"; he would like to know whether there will be changes in the vocal parts in German and "when do you think you will be ready"; he asks whether there is any hope of a performance in Berlin and whether Klemperer will perform the Flurry; thinks Three Wishes is a work "very rewarding on the stage, although it is somewhat different from things performed in Germany"; plans a new opera on a German text so that if Three Wishes is performed he will have a new job and asks Hoffmann to recommend a librettist; it would be "an attempt at a mechanical opera" with the orchestra reduced ("15 members"), music prerecorded on discs, possibly a "mechanical opera". mechanical piano, noises, the performance would provide "as little theatrical tension as possible"; the libretto also only in short scenes with "simple decorum".
