Content and physical description
Content- as agreed, the writer sends the first and second movements - the orchestral score and the piano excerpt ; the third movement will follow shortly;
- asks the addressees not to judge the work by the piano extract, which was difficult to prepare and does not give a true picture of the whole (...) ;
- the orchestra is treated lightly (...) ;
- the tempo of the first movement bears more the hallmarks of concerto grosso - i.e., there is no need to push the tempo, on the contrary, play with the intention of holding it, this to better bring out the sonority and technique - the designation Poco Allegro is perhaps a good one ; the second movement is slow, the tempo poses no problem ;
- as for the marking of dynamics, the addressee will notice that the writer almost always marks it somewhat stronger - except, of course, f. - i.e., mf. It is possible that at certain moments it may diminish in strength to p., or even pp. - but the writer was rather counting on the sound of solo instruments in the concert hall. Let the addressees modify these things as they see fit. (The writer is thinking especially of the end of the second movement.)
- bow stroke : as regards this, let the addressees arrange it as they see fit (...) ;
- in the second movement, the writer has left one whole section blank, only marking in pencil his intentions regarding the phrasing in the piano excerpt - let the addressee be so kind as to determine the definite bow strokes, and then let him also write this in the orchestral score - this is the second movement before 5 - ornaments (...) ;
- title : the writer has not given one, but thinks it would be most appropriate to call the work Le duo concertant pour 2 violons et l´orchestre ;
- would like to know the opinion of the addressees ;
- one more detail to check : in the orchestral score, on pages 18-22, the writer has indicated in pencil a change of tempo - but these are rather natural changes - the writer is not sure whether it is necessary to indicate them - there is a danger that the conductor will slow down or speed up the tempo too much after the change of tempo as indicated. (...) In general, however, the tempo remains the same throughout.
