This piece is Martinů’s only composition for a standard wind quintet, written in Paris in 1930. The piece is currently missing. Harry Halbreich describes this loss as the most significant in Martinů's entire catalog of compositions. The autograph score was in the possession of Miloš Šafránek until the 1960s, but then he sold it to an unknown antiquarian bookstore in Prague without making a copy.
