In his monograph, Miloš Šafránek incorrectly listed this occasional piano minicycle as Dětské skladby [Children's Compositions]. This title was later adopted by Harry Halbreich in his catalogue of compositions of B. Martinů.
This is the way, how the incorrect Czech title of the work entered the Martinů literature. It is not – as is evident – either "compositions" or "pieces", but only several-bar pieces lasting only three minutes in total. On the title page of the manuscript it is only the words of the composer: 'To Božánek and Sonička Šmídovi, in memory of their holidays in Potštejn, Boh. Martinů, Polička.
[...] The time of creation of the minicycle (Polička, August (?) 1932) is given according to the oral information of Mr. Bohuslav Šmíd [a builder from Polička and a friend of Bohuslav Martinů], the father of the two children to whom the work is dedicated, namely Bohuslav (born 1924) and Sonia (born 1927).
[ It is interesting to note that the original illustrated cover of the manuscript was painted by František Martinů (Bohuslav's brother) in 1932. On the last page of the sheet music, Martinů's handwritten note is inscribed with a small addition: 'And when you can play it, I will write something more difficult for both of you.']
