The individual parts of the Miniature Suite for Violoncello and Piano were certainly intended as instructional pieces. The individual works, which do not place high demands on the violoncellist, contrast with the pianist’s challenging part. This disparity in difficulty serves as a musical challenge to the tectonic structure of this captivating whole. The composition was written in 1931 during the composer’s stay in Paris.
