About the composition

The piano composition Prelude was composed by Martinů in Paris in 1924. The piece was written for the Czech pianist Karel Šolc, but according to his letter (ŠolK 0000-00-00d), he never performed it publicly because he forgot about it and only rediscovered it in 1950 while moving. In 1970, the piece was published by Panton in Prague.
