The only mention of the composition's existence was brought by Miloš Šafránek and then it was taken over by Hary Halbreich in the catalogue of Bohuslav Martinů's compositions. Both authors mention the scoring for violin and piano, the date of composition as 1912 and the first performance on 15 July 1912 in Polička.
However, according to the announcement and subsequent review of the jubilee concert of the young band, published in the magazine Jitřenka, vol. 31, nos. 15 and 17, the concert took place a month later, on 15 August 1912, and Martinů premiered his new piano piece, described in the announcement as Fantasie and in the review as Ballade for piano. It can be assumed that the work was the Ballade to Krzesz's painting The Last Chords of Chopin, H 56, for piano from 1912, and the piece marked by Šafránek and later by Halbreich as Fantasie for violin and piano (H 62) was never written.
