About the composition

The manuscript of Three Songs (Tři písně, H 115) is missing. According to Harry Halbreich, the compositions were written in Polička between 1917–1918. Miloš Šafránek mentions that, apart from the Prague premiere in 1920, Song No. 1 – "The Most Beautiful Death" – to a text by the Persian poet Hafiz was performed in Paris at the Gaveau Hall on 2 May 1925. In the same concert of the Société Nationale de Musique, performed by the French singer Jane Bathori (1877-1970), a part of "January" from the cycle of the The Months, H 135 (Šafránek 1961, p. 111) was also performed.
