About the composition

Two Songs on Russian Poetry, H 135bis, was composed by Martinů in Polička in 1922. The text of the first song is Můj slavíčku (Oh My Nightingale) by the Russian Romantic poet Alexei Vasilievich Kolkov. The second song is titled Ulovila jsem sobě vínek (I Wreathed Myself a Chaplet). The composition was never published, but an unpublished transcription by G. Koukl is available at the Bohuslav Martinů Institute.
