The Fiery Man (H 71, 1912) is essentially a nonsense poem concerning the anticipation of love, its initial frustration and its final attainment – all of which Martinů sets in his liveliest and most effervescent manner.
The recording of the composition was released for the first time by Naxos in 2014 (Martinů: Songs, Vol. 2 – The Months; Jana Wallingerová, Giorgio Koukl).
