About the composition

Martinů’s Eight Preludes for piano, H 181 were composed in Paris in 1929. The composition is dedicated to the composer’s future wife Charlotte. The autograph manuscript is now in the possession of the company Éditions Alphonse Leduc, which published the piece for the first time in Paris in 1930. No details are known about the premiere.
