Content and physical description
ContentRecord of the submission and statement of the Ministry of Education regarding the payment of Bohuslav Martinů's fees abroad, marked confidential.
Submission dated 5.5.1950: according to a communication from OSA, Bohuslav Martinů has 117.125 CZK in their account, from which he pays small expenses to his siblings Maria and František Martinů. BM has 276.417 CZK in his accounts at Orbis and Melantrich. Melantrich is waiting for permission from the National Bank to settle BM's fees. The National Bank has so far refused to do so. Orbis, at the express request of the composer, has concluded a contract with Boosey & Hawkes. BM is celebrating his 60th birthday and much attention is being paid to him.
Statement of 9 May 1950: BM has promised to teach at AMU but has not yet returned to his homeland. His appointment as a professor can be discussed only after his definite return to Czechoslovakia.
According to the head of the Union of Czechoslovak Composers [Miroslav] Barvik, Martinů's fears of not being accepted are unjustified.
These statements are summarised in a draft letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs dated 11 May 1950.
