ContentThe Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a letter from the Czechoslovak Embassy in Paris concerning the remittance of Bohuslav Martinů's royalties abroad.
The quoted letter from the consulate [from Adolf Hoffmeister] mentions that BM is again asking for payment of his fees, otherwise it will have to take further action. By these steps he probably means terminating the contract with Melantrich and commissioning the compositions from another publisher. [Hoffmester] has also spoken with Jindřich Honzl, with whom BM is also in contact, mainly about a new opera on a folk theme. JH asked about BM's attitude in musical circles and received the reply that no one wants to declare today that BM could fully apply himself in the Czechoslovakia, certainly not as a professor, etc. [Hoffmeister] will appeal to BM not to bind the contract with Melantrich for a quick payment of royalties, but he has not yet sent his letter and asks about the MFA's attitude towards BM.
MFA is forwarding the report to BM and asking for a comment. They are also urging Melantrich and NHV Orbis to pay the honorarium to Bohuslav Martinů. [Attached is a copy of the letter to NHV Orbis dated 7.4.1950]
