Content and physical description
ContentErick Hawkins writes to Robert Fitzgerald that Martinů is already working on [the ballet THE STRANGLER]. Martinů asks them to read the text several times with Marian Seldes and Jimeme Karen, for starters. EH borrowed Mexican percussion from the museum - hollowed out mahogany logs. Each has two notes, two instruments, so 4 notes. EH has several small percussion instruments at home. BM is fascinated by them. EH thinks BM is going to do something really special. [Roe] Barstow, a friend of Martin's, is a good facilitator and has called EH to say that she is excited about the ballet herself and has also asked EH to discuss with RF the editing of a few places in the text that EH goes on to discuss. BM wants to have a final version of the text before she does the score schedule and before she leaves town to work on the score.
