| Content | Martinů is surprised that Ernest Roth won’t stay longer in Zurich and leaves for the mountains, away from all worries about music and the festival. It will be difficult for Martinů to get back to Schönenberg, as he does not know of any connection from Basel. He hopes to meet ER at some other time, for example in Salzburg, where he will be around August 22-25, or in Zurich and wishes him a pleasant rest. |
| Transcription of the letter | Aug. 2.56.
Dear Ernest:
I thought that you will stay for some days in Zurich but I have impression from your letter that you are leaving immediately for a high mountain where noone will find you and where will not be a music, not even Radio and not a Festival. So it will be difficult for me to get back to Schonenberg in the night. There is no communication from Basel, as far as I know.
I think I can see you at some later date, may be in Salzburg. We will be there about 22-25 August or you will come to Zurich during a day, full of rest and bronzé by mountain air. Let me know, I wish you a very nice sejourn [sojourn] in the mountain and [beaucoup] de rest a odpočinek.
Would like very much to see you. Hope I will. Best regards
B. Martinů
