| Content | Bohuslav Martinů met Erich Leinsdorf, who allegedly found many declamation mistakes in the published text of LOCANDIERA. According to BM, they should now work on a vocal part with English and German translations, so they will then have time for corrections for possible Italian performances. BM likes the editorial work of the vocal parts, which was done by Leopold Spinner, but he asks not to rush to the press next time until everything is right. Leinsdrof is interested in participating in the English translation, do they already have someone for this job? BM hopes to be able to meet ER soon. He will be in Paris between May 9th and 15th. BM suggests ER places to stay in Paris: 62 rue Pierre Charron and Hotel D’Angleterre 91 rue de la Böetie-Paris. BM hopes that there will be a publisher-festival in Paris that ER could visit. At the end of the letter BM adds that there are unexpected complications with the departure, he will inform ER. |

Dear Ernest:
I saw Leinsdorf and he told me that he found many declamation-mistakes in the text of Locandiera. Now I do not know your intentions, you write me that you would prefer to make a vocal score with english and german text, which I think will be better and we would have time to correct italian mistakes for eventuel[!] performance in Italy. I like very much Spinner vocal-score but please do not rush the print until everything is in order. Leinsdorf will be interested of course in english translation. Do you have somebody. Anyway I hope I have the opportunity to speak with you soon. Am in Paris from May 9 to May 15. Let me know if you will be there: 62 rue Pierre Charron or Hotel D’Angleterre, 91 rue de la Böetie-Paris. Hope that it will be some Publishers-Festival that you could come.
Sincerely your B. Martinů
