ContentThank you for your letter and New Year's wishes, it was a joyful writing after a long time. Congratulations on the "appreciation and recognition" of Karel Šebánek's work. If they had known that KS would not be at his mother's house, they would have invited him themselves. They wanted to write earlier, but were waiting for a letter from Bohuslav Martinů, who usually sends one at Christmas, but this year he must have been delayed somewhere. BM writes that he does not have a proper invitation to Prague, and cannot come because there is still a ban on Americans travelling to Czechoslovakia. He will not negotiate with the state publishing house and sends them a letter from BM's lawyer, which does not please them (the publishing house). He asks them to get him F. M. Dostoyevsky's Fables "at any price". They got it to him in record time and sent it by airmail from Pardubice, but immediately a letter arrived saying that he already had it from America. Now they are waiting for a letter from BM, as soon as they know something they will write to KS about it.
