Content and physical description
Content[Vojtěch] Strnad informs Minister František Kahuda that Charlotte Martinů has come to Prague to claim the property inherited from Bohuslav Martinů. OSA discusses the payment of 40.000,- KČS. BM's estate, as a US citizen, must be discussed separately. It was agreed that VS, as the then OSA director, would act as ChM's proxy in CSR. Subsequently, ChM expressed that the transfer of BM's remains to the CSR, which was part of the original agreement, was not possible in the foreseeable future. Also, [Paul] Sacher made hostile comments about the CSR. ChM's lawyer, [Adolf] Streuli, then approached VS to provide documents authorizing VS to represent ChM. VS interpreted this as questioning his good will and wrote back to AS that he was no longer bound by Mrs. ChM's promise under these circumstances. A letter then came from AS saying that he had misinterpreted his query. VS no longer responded to this at all. As a result, BM's estate is still pending. ChM had a meeting with VS on 20.5.1961 and was very surprised that the succession was not yet settled. She had already made a power of attorney to VS some time ago and hoped that everything would be sorted out during the present visit. She is a US citizen until 18/06/1961 and a French citizen after that date. ChM has three wishes: 1) to meet with [Vaclav] Kopecky and remind him of the original agreement to transfer the royalties to France, the transfer of BM's remains to the Czechoslovakia after her death, and the transfer of BM's papers from the garage of the Sacher house to the Czechoslovakia for the BM museum in Polička; 2) ChM did not understand the agreement to mean that assistance from the CSR was conditional on the transfer of BM's remains to the CSR; 3) she would like to use the royalties to buy furnishings for the new house and then send them by diplomatic baggage; 4) she asks to purchase a plane ticket from the CSR for the Czechoslovakia. 5) ChM would like VS to represent her in the hearing of BM's estate or to suggest a lawyer who could take it over. ChM is staying with Jan Zrzavy during this stay. VS has asked V. Kopecký whether ChM's wishes should be granted.
