Content and physical description
ContentMiloš Šafránek draws the ambassador's attention to Bohuslav Martinů, from whom he has received desperate letters from the south of France. BM begs him for a visa to the USA, which could save him from a concentration camp. He was blacklisted by the Protectorate as an emigrant who disobeyed the summons and did not return to Prague by the end of January 1940. The performance of his compositions is banned at home and royalties blocked. BM is also compromised as an active member of the Resistance in France, so it is not impossible that the Germans will demand his extradition. BM has money for travel and has immediate opportunities to commission his manuscript compositions. He has a good reputation with conductors - MS mentions [Sergei] Koussevitzky, [Artur] Rodźinski, [Otto] Klemperer. He also mentions [Elisabeth] Sprague-Coolidge, and a friendship with [Samuel] Dushkin.
