ContentJan Novák responds to the letter from the FR, which they have only just received. He wonders about Frank Rybka's reaction to the request for the return of the loaned money, as JN thought he was lending it to Mrs Louise [?], who acted as a patron of the arts. Presumably JN would not have lent such a sum to Frank Rybka. He also gives a conversion of the amount to dollars at current exchange rates, asking FR for a total of $622 after deducting the $100 donation he received from FR a year ago. He does not know what exchange rate he and his grandfather [presumably Jan Novak's father in Brno ?] agreed on, so he is willing to discount it slightly because he really needs the money now. He therefore asks to be paid soon.
