Content and physical description
ContentSupraphon responds to letters from the Czech Music Fund regarding the English translation of Charlotte Martinů's book My Life with Bohuslav Martinů. Supraphon is not involved in publishing foreign language books, so this request is out of the question. Preliminary discussions have taken place with the Artia publishing house (with [Maria] Kándlova), to whom the Czech Music Fund should turn. However, Supraphon has been informed of certain circumstances which do not favour the publication of an English translation. Artia has stopped publishing books with musical themes, and when publishing in other languages, it is trying to cooperate with foreign publishers to ensure a total print run of at least 20,000. Paying royalties in foreign currency would also pose a complication. Artia thinks the best way would be to have an English translation published by an English or American publisher.
