Content and physical description
ContentGerd Lipport thanks you for your prompt reply to the previous letter. The address of Jan Novak was obtained by GL on request from Mock's publishers. Thanks for the news about JN's family. Charlotte [Martinu] did tell him about Dora and Clara [Novak] but things have changed a lot since then. He and his wife [Eliška Nováková] are certainly happy that both their daughters are successfully pursuing art. Does JN still perform with his wife [as a piano duo]? GL studied JN's playlist with interest. He admits that he doesn't know much about JN's work. He only owns a gramophone record and a score of Capriccio, and once heard the Concerto for 2 pianos from a friend. He is interested in the possibility of acquiring more of his works. He wishes JN a happy birthday. He also responds to JN's previous letter. He knows Michael Henderson. He is very interested in the works of Bohuslav Martinů. GL met him in person at the Internationalen Martinů Kongress in Prague in May 1981, where they both gave a lecture (GL discussed the piano in BM's works). They met again in Prague later and became friends. He is also in contact with Jaroslav Mihule, secretary of the Bohuslav Martinů Society, and with Petr Eben. At the end of August, GL and his wife will visit Polička to celebrate the consecration of Charlotte and BM's grave and the reopening of the BM Museum. GL hopes JN doesn't mind writing so much about Czechoslovakia. Thanks to the friends they have made here, they love this country despite the political climate. He would write again in May. If JN travels north, he and his wife are welcome to visit.
