| Content | Evžen Zámečník thanks Jan Novák for sending his work Dido. For him it is one of the greatest musical experiences of the last few days, he admires the rhythm and dramatic feeling of the piece. He asks JN why he does not write operas. He has heard from someone that he has written one, but doesn't know anything about it, so would be interested. He sends JN a record of his composition Musica Lamentosa, he has already shown him the score. It is a live recording of a performance at the Rudolfinum (conducted by Vladimir Válek), EZ is interested in JN's opinion. He also writes about what he has composed recently: Capriccio for solo accordion (he is about to send it to Hugo Noth), Vzpomínka na Jaroslava Hašek (a work for bassoon and piano), Serenata Piccola and he has also arranged several pieces for the Brno Brass Band. In May they have a concert, Günter Bialas and Jan Kapr have sent their compositions. However, they will perform these at future concerts. EZ encloses a list of the pieces they will play at the May concert. His name appears there frequently, both because they are short pieces and because he had to put together the program quickly and in accordance with the concert organized for the Music Youth. The concert will be recorded, he will then send JN a recording. He informs about the death of Oldřich Vykypel and Slávek Volavý. EZ will be on the jury in Belgium at the European Youth Music Festival at the end of April and beginning of May. He regrets that they are not going via Ulm. He asks JN to report that the record arrived safely and thanks again for Dido.
A handwritten note at the end that he is conducting the Great Wind Orchestra of Amati Kraslice in April. JN's former bandleader Jindrich Pravecek will be there. Two EZ works will also be performed. He assures JN, however, that he is not giving up on classical music and that he will never replace works for wind orchestras with sonatas and quartets. |
