Content and physical description
ContentEvžen Zámečník writes to Jan Novák from Denmark, where he is on tour with the Bohuslav Martinů Chamber Orchestra. Yesterday they played in Aarhus, they send František Kopecny a postcard to Brno. EZ encloses the programme of the concert. They are also playing EZ compositions. He will soon send JN tapes with recordings of some of his works. JN likes the Dido piece more and more, even Jiri Waldhans was enthusiastic. EZ thanks them for their devotion to the Brno Brass Band, the first concert (May 10, 1983) was a huge success. Critics wrote about the revival of a forgotten tradition of Brno music, Josef Berg was also mentioned. The concert is not recorded in its entirety, but several excerpts will be sent on cassette. He will also send a recording of his work Jazz-Study for Violin and Brass, which was recorded for radio. He also writes EZ about the concerts they have coming up and the pieces they will be playing. He mentions the deaths of Václav Trojan, Zdeněk Liška, Vladimír Neff and Jaroslav Krombholc. In March, his composition Vzpomínka na Jaroslava Hašek will be premiered. EZ returns again to the Brno Brass Band and JN's last letter. He agrees with the piano concerto and asks JN to tell him under which pseudonym he should present it (Marcipor Oppi, Franco Bollo) or just Anonymus. EZ asks if he has to officially ask somewhere in Prague if JN can play? He criticizes this situation and the "free" 20th century. The opera Beetle Baggins is to be premiered by the National Theatre in Prague in the 1984-1985 season, but so far he has only verbal communication and does not believe it. Karel Berman is supposed to direct it. EZ invites JN to the premiere with his whole family and regrets that it won't happen. EZ asks JN to write opinions on his music, harmony, old scales, etc. He concludes by expressing his respect for JN and asking him to write his memories of Bohuslav Martinů.
