Content and physical description
ContentJan Novák writes to Eugene Zámečník that although they could not see each other, he is glad that EZ has a rare opportunity to see Spain. They listened to the tape and were impressed by the Concert. JN is glad that EZ is making beautiful and exciting music. JN recently heard the new Berio in Milan and didn't care much for it. He thinks these post-Webern expressionists have reached a dead end from which there is no escape. JN thought the third movement of the Concerto was a bit awkward and the whole tone parts not very expressive. He thinks the outer movements could have been longer and advises EZ to think more about the architecture, referring to Bohuslav Martinů. JN writes that he gives EZ advice but does nothing himself, that EZ may consider this to be ageist drivel. He concludes by congratulating him on the Concerto and looks forward to seeing him again.
