ContentBohuslav Martinů would like to thank Jan Novák for the surprise package of variations [on the theme BM - JN composition from 1949]. BM did not know about this project. He likes the variations, although he wouldn't have written so many notes and so many colours together himself. Has JN played it, with whom, and how does he like it? BM is glad JN is working, even if the conditions are not as JN would have liked them. JN is to write to Melantrich's director, Karel Šebánek - they could put something in print for JN. I guess everything is now moving from Melantrich to Orbis, but JN is still to write there. JN should mention the variations, KS will be interested in that. BM will also mention it. BM asks how JN is doing and what he is smoking. Everything is the same with BM, hectic. BM has heard his SYMPHONY No. 4 on discs from Prague and doesn't want to comment at all, it's miserable and there's nothing to hear. BM wishes you all the best for the new year.
