Content and physical description
ContentThe sender received two letters from Charlotte Martinů. He gave a copy of the first letter, dated 30 January 1966, to Karel Šebánek so that he could study it. He also gave him the letter from Bärenreiter to [Adolf] Streuli and the supplementary contract which ChM had to sign. The sender also produced a translation of the letter in German for AS and will send it to ChM so that she can study it. The question of the manuscripts [of Bohuslav Martinů's compositions] is still very unclear. According to the CS, it is common for a manuscript to become the property of the publisher. ChM also cannot argue that the author [BM] did not know the language of the contract. However, in order to make a clearer statement, it is necessary to know all the clauses of the contract and ChM must be sure of what it wants to do. The sender will write to ChM in more detail once he has studied her letter and the contract from Bärenreiter. It is also not clear to him what the sender has to send to Lilian Fuchs. KS thinks that the best solution is to contact Bärenreiter - but then it is necessary to find out what exactly LF needs. The sender sends a translation of the charter to LF. Also sends the draft letter that ChM talked about and forgot to take. She also forgot to give him a copy of the letter she sent to Schott Music and also the letter from Boosey & Hawkes to [David] Adams. He also forwarded the letters from [Frank] Rybka so that they could use the information pertaining to the meeting with [Ulf] Schimer. However, he is concerned that nothing can be done in this matter without the presence of ChM. Nor without studying the contracts with the various publishers. He therefore asks ChM for her opinion. He cannot give her any advice lest he be caught (?) like poor FR. But he has to look at the whole matter from two perspectives: personal and professional. It's all so confused that there is a risk of forgetting or overlooking some important point. Also, he shouldn't send extracts of ChM's letters to KS. He sends greetings from Nina.
