Content and physical description
ContentKarel Boleslav Jirák writes to Bohuslav Martinů that he has moved. He is interested in news from home and Europe. KBJ listened to a speech by Petr Zenkl. KBJ and his wife are now "displaced persons" and so are in the US legally and repatriation is not in sight. [Otakar] Šourek wrote to KBJ that BM had been appointed professor at the Academy of Performing Arts along with [Pavel] Bořkovec and [Jaroslav] Řídky. How will BM decide? KBJ is still persona non grata, although he was also appointed under [Josef] Hutter. In the end, [Anna] Patzáková put [Boleslav] Vomáček, a great communist and an old friend of KBJ, there, but he didn't even answer the letter. KBJ met with [Charles] Munch, as BM had advised. BM is to remind KBJ if they meet. After the scandal with [Arthur] Rodzinski there will now be a series of good gigs with Munch and [Bruno] Walter. The orchestra is better than the New York Philharmonic with [Leopold] Stokowski. The KBJ doesn't need the music of [Olivier] Messiaen and [Aram] Khachaturian. Wouldn't BM know how to help the great organist Bedřich Janáček, who has fled to Sweden but is not safe there? Greetings to [Rudolf] Firkušný.
