ContentMinutes of the meeting of 23 September 1953 concerning publishing contractual arrangements with Bohuslav Martinů.
In a letter to SNKLHU, BM's legal representative complained that the composer's works submitted to the publishers were not being sufficiently distributed. If they are not distributed worldwide within six months, he will consider the contract cancelled. SNKLHU does not know where the contracts with BM are and does not know the wording of the contracts. The published works are in stock. Five works for which the publisher has a contract have not yet been published.
A proposal has been made to set up a permanent inter-ministerial committee.
The Union of Czechoslovak Composers could be given an incentive for an ideological evaluation of BM's work.
All agreed on the following: The publishing rights must remain in the Czechoslovakia. Since they do not know the text of the contract, it is necessary to rely on correspondence. Artia will publish a catalogue of BM's works published in CSR (including the five works in preparation for publication). SNKLHU and Artia will arrange for the publication of the remaining five works. SNKLHU will write to BM's legal representative that it is fulfilling its obligations and will document this with the GZ catalogue [?]. The Ministry of Culture will issue unified guidelines for the promotion of BM's works. SNKLHU will further investigate BM's contracts. The Legislative Department will initiate the formation of an inter-ministerial committee.
