Content and physical description
ContentElisabeth Sprague-Coolidge informs Arthur Tillman Merritt that Benjamin Britten has declined the offer due to the amount of other work. The ESC will meet with him the following week, but is not hopeful that this will change. William Schuman has not yet replied to Harold Spivacke, so they can't do much before the holidays. She also thought about Bohuslav Martinů, but he is hospitalized for injuries from a fall. Martha [Graham?] is in California. She thinks they will eventually choose Carlos Chávez, from whom she commissioned the piece "Dark Meadow." She gives Schuman's address. Regrets that ATM was not at the last concert. Malipiero's work is beautiful.
