Content and physical description
ContentWalter Piston thinks it would be better to cut Olivier Messiaen [from the program of the concert at the Symposium of Music Criticism, September 1-3, 1947, at Harvard University, Massachusetts]. If he calls back later, he will surely understand that they had to make that decision. What about [Bohuslav] Martinů? WP does not recall him being discussed as a possibility. On the contrary, he thinks it would be good to take someone young who is not very well known. He suggests Alexei Haieff.
He mentions the good news about Malipiero.
WP returns to Belmont on 16 Sep and will be at Arthur Tillman Merritt's disposal. Piston's 1st quartet was played at Dartmouth.
