Content and physical description
ContentThe writer thanks BM for his letter of 18 January 1956. Encloses a copy of the [draft] two contracts between Dilia and Boosey & Hawkes for the representation of BM's stage works. He asks BM to comment.
Dilia would be willing to reproduce any of BM's works in sufficient quantities. It would be inappropriate to contract with B&H for all BM works represented by Dilia, thereby taking them out of circulation. There are other ways to place the works. There is interest in radio works in West Germany, perhaps it is a shame to block them.
Dilia comments on BM's previous contract with Orbis for BM operas. The works were published in the Czechoslovakia and have not yet been dismantled, so Orbis's rights have not expired. Dilia's right to reproduce these works is based on the Orbis contracts.
Dilia lists its usual percentage deductions from royalties. Had B&H represented all of the composer's works and billed royalties, additional commissions and a heavy tax would have been withheld from the composer. This is covered in the contract by a future agreement clause with BM.
Dilia informs Karel Šebánek of its procedure so that he can give the composer an impartial opinion.
