Content and physical description
ContentLeonard Burkat announces that Radio Swiss will broadcast the premiere of PARABOLY on February 13, 1959.
Included is a New York Times review clipping (2/22/1959) which discusses the afternoon concert by Charles Munch and the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, where PARABOLY was first performed in New York (2/21/1959). Reviewer John Briggs details all three movements of this Bohuslav Martinů work: the Parable of the Statue, the Garden, and the Labyrinth. BM was inspired by Citadel (Antoine de Saint-Exupéry) and Voyage de Thesée (Georges Neveux). JB highlights the richness of this work, especially the Garden section, which contains a musical vocabulary of Impressionism. The work was well received by subscribers. Finally, the author highlights the playing of pianist Eugene Istomin, who impressed as soloist in Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4.
