Content and physical description
ContentThe university's rector, Harold Willis Dodds, agreed, and so R. D. Welch invited Bohuslav Martinů to Princeton University as a visiting professor in music theory courses covering orchestration and composition for 1948-1949. The salary for this work will be $6000 per year. Most of the students will be graduate students and will divide their work between the study of music theory and musicology. RDW believes BM will find well-prepared young men who take their work seriously. It would also be helpful if BM gave some lessons in advanced theory courses for "undergraduate" students. He will teach a total of at least 6 hours a week, but if he decides to teach "undergraduate" students as well, he can teach 8 hours a week. WRD believes that this teaching can be accomplished in two days in the afternoon with possibly one evening session. If BM would like to meet with students outside of the allotted time, they are happy to provide a spare classroom and piano. They will be happy for him to give individual lessons, but these will not be part of the regular schedule for which he will be responsible. RDW will be happy to meet with BM to discuss further details. They will be happy to accept this position. The academic year starts on 20 September and ends on 25 May.
