Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů writes to Charlotte Martinů from the hospital where he is recovering from the accident that Rudolf [Firkušný] mentioned in his letter. He assures her that he will return to school tomorrow or on Wednesday, in the meantime [Nikolai] Lopatnikov is acting for him. Friends, including Louis Dushkin, [Boaz] Piller and [Bernard] Zighera, are visiting him, and [Sergei] Koussevitsky has procured another doctor.
Martinu expresses gratitude for the care he is receiving, mentions that everyone at the hospital is taking good care of him. He assures the CM that he has no cause for concern and informs her that everything is returning to normal. A concert was held on Sunday, where the QUINTET [KEY QUINTET NO. 2] was performed. The piece was a great success, but the concert took place in BM's absence. The boxes should have been delivered, RF organised everything. Advises that in any case BM should wait until September for [Jan] Masaryk [visiting the USA with a Czechoslovak delegation].
