Content and physical description
ContentVáclav Talich thanks Bohuslav Martinů for his letter. He appreciates his cordiality at a time when VT is going through a crisis. He mentions the stroke he suffered on St. Stephen's Day [min. of the year], as a result of which he suffered a visual impairment - after 9 weeks in hospital he could not read, after which the situation improved. Having been forced to leave the National Theatre, VT is concerned about his continued livelihood. His only income will be a pension from the Prague Conservatoire, but he does not know the amount. He also writes about the Czech Chamber Orchestra, which he wanted to build. He had been promised by Minister Jaroslav Stránský to secure this ensemble on the condition that VT would join the National Chamber Orchestra. This was the main reason why he returned to the National Theatre. Now, after his dismissal from the ND, the CKO is voluntarily disbanding after two years of activity (the last evening of the CKO will take place at the end of this month). In conclusion, VT expresses great disappointment and existential concerns.
