Content and physical description
ContentVáclav Talich apologises for his long silence towards Bohuslav Martinů, but describes his difficult situation when he has to face accusations of collaboration with the Nazis. He admits that he found himself in situations during the occupation that forced him to "speak in a borrowed language", but he did so out of a desire to keep the National Theatre running at all costs. He considered it irresponsible cowardice to give up the management of the National Theatre and go into seclusion. VT complains that he has not been allowed to speak publicly for a year and a half - after nine months of banning by the Nazis, another nine months have passed, a total of a year and a half without work. VT expresses his gratitude to BM for the three kind letters and the parcel and would like BM to return. However, he urges him to be prudent and careful. Finally, VT expresses a sense of loneliness in his generation (especially after the death of Stanislav Novak).
