Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů is ready to conclude a contract with Universal Edition, yet he proposes to add a few clauses:
1. The basis for the calculation of fees will be the price at which works are sold in individual halls.
2. The fees in the first two years: 12%, in the following four years: 15%.
3. The fees shall be paid as follows: in advance only from half of the costs according to sales, the formulation is not clear to him.
4. Fees will also be paid from printings of piano scores.
5. He suggests a 20% commission for sales of stage works abroad.
6. He cannot cover the costs for translations, UE wants to reserve the right to translation, yet BM has serious reasons for requiring that they waive these conditions.
7. The permission for advertising and promotional purposes goes too far. He cannot understand why this licence also applies to “collective” publications and anthologies - he should receive a corresponding fee for that.
