CommentsThe correspondence provides clear evidence that the composer had two contemporary copies of A made ([R1] and [R2]), which he gave to Miloslav Bureš shortly after completing the work. The latter visited the composer in Rome in May 1957 and took both copies with him back to Prague, of which one was supposed to be passed on to Jan Kühn. The composer informed his family that he was not sending the cantata home by post but instead via Bureš in a letter from 24 May 1957 (Mar 1957-05-24). The only extant copy R3 is housed in the archive of PSS. As in the case of the other sources there for the other cantatas on Bureš's texts, the origin of the copy is unknown.
